3 Reasons You Should Promote Your Music On TikTok

Using social media as a marketing tool for music promotion has become a natural thing. Artists make great efforts – or at least they should – to build a loyal fanbase on their social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook or YouTube to extend the reach of their songs. However, most of them forget about one app which has been taking over the App Store since its creation – TikTok, formerly known as musically. This is why you should promote your music on TikTok.

What Is TikTok?

Tp promote your music on TikTok isn’t a complex consideration because the TikTok App (in China known as Douyin) is one of the fastest-growing iOS and Android media apps in the world. It is basically a mix between Vine, Snapchat and Instagram allowing its users to create short videos of max. 60 sec with different filters and features and most importantly to add sounds from their huge music and sound library.

Here are 3 reasons you should definitely promote your music on TikTok.

1. Generation Z

TikTok has 500 million active users worldwide and 41% of them are aged between 16 and 24. (globalwebindex, 2019). They are constantly recording videos of themselves lip-syncing and/or dancing to various songs. So why not to your songs too? If you want your music to reach a young, open-minded and adventurous audience, you should definitely give this platform a try.

2. Make Your Music Go Viral

TikTok was the second most downloaded app in 2019 and the number of active users is still growing. The more users there are on the platform the higher the chance is to make your music go viral. But this won’t happen by itself. For that, you have to get your music on TikTok and create videos, use hashtags or even collaborate with influencers. Viewers who will like the background music will probably create a video with it too. So let the chain reaction begin! This is what happened to Lil Nas X. He recorded his hit-release “Old Town Road” in a studio during their $20 session. When the #Yeehaw Challenge got started, the song went viral like wildfire. Millions of TikTokers and TikTok stars started joining the challenge using this song. What was the challenge? Whenever Lil Nas X sings ‘I got the horses back’, normally dressed people suddenly switch to country outfits in their videos.

3. Marketing… But Not Really

People constantly see insincere advertising and promotion for products and services online. They don’t fall for them anymore – quite the contrary – they get annoyed. Using TikTok as a marketing tool won’t give anybody the feeling of force and pressure. So feel free to use this platform to promote your own music and sometimes even without having to pay anything. Lil Nas X didn’t pay a cent to promote his song on this platform but still could benefit from it.

To sum up: although it is not a common thing among musicians to promote their music on TikTok, it is definitely worth a try. BUT: you should put some work into it to achieve your goal of spreading your music.
